PR and Marketing graduate launches ‘Employ Daney’ Campaign in order to gain permanent employment
An Edinburgh based PR and Marketing graduate has launched a PR campaign called ‘Employ Daney’ in a bid to gain full-time, permanent employment in the PR and Marketing industry.
Dane Thomson, 26, graduated with a 2.1 in BSc (Hons) PR and Marketing from Queen Margaret University and achieved an ‘A’ in his final year dissertation in July 2014. He has gone onto secure rewarding short-term internships with not-for-profit, organisation Acorn Enterprise (a business Accelerator dedicated to growing Scotland’s start-up business culture) as their marketing and events assistant. He also went onto securing his most recent role as Communications Assistant Intern for Queen Margaret University’s ‘Flourishing People, Spaces and Places’ TEDxQmu event which took place on Friday 17th April which was well attended and received rave reviews.
Dane said “Having been actively looking for new PR and Marketing opportunities since TEDxQmu ended in May this year, I decided the time was right to put my skills, experience and creative flair to good use by launching the ‘Employ Daney’ campaign in order to grab the attention of employers in the PR and Marketing industry.
“As part of the Employ Daney campaign, I’m organising an event called #ComeDaneWithMe whereby I’m going to invite employers (whom I’ve worked with and want to work most in the PR and Marketing industry) to come over for dinner in a Come Dine With Me style fashion event. The event will include a homemade dinner menu, networking, entertainment and real insightful chats about changes in the PR and Marketing industry. The event date has set for Tuesday 6th October.
Whilst looking for work, Dane most recently has began volunteering with Changes Musselburgh, a Community Health Project, established to promote the positive well-being of people living in East Lothian and looking to work with them to develop their digital presence, most notably launching them on social media and got involved in the See Me #walkamile organised by Scotland’s national anti-stigma campaign See Me in partnership with Chris Young’s Walk a Mile in My Shoes project.
Dane has a passion for supporting the voluntary sector, and whilst studying at University volunteered his spare time to work on projects with Support in Mind Scotland and Gay Men’s Health.
Dane is keen to secure a full-time permanent position in a PR/ Marketing agency or within the voluntary sector or in a social enterprise and looks to use the ‘Employ Daney’ campaign as a key engine to gain employment.

10/09/15: Daney participates in Walk a Mile In My Shoes: An event organised to challenge mental health stigma one conversation at a time.
HUNDREDS of people walked down Edinburgh’s Royal Mile on Thursday 03/09/15 in a landmark event to tackle mental health stigma in Scotland.
Walk a Mile brought together over 450 professionals, carers, people with first-hand experience of mental health problems and a government minister, creating the country’s biggest ever conversation to address mental health stigma and discrimination.
It was led by Chris McCullough Young, who has been walking around the edge of the UK with no money, relying entirely on the hospitality of people he meets and speaks to about mental health.
Working with See Me, Scotland’s programme to end mental health discrimination, Chris led hundreds of people, including Jamie Hepburn MSP for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health, down the iconic street.
